A Statement of Philosophy

Joy and inspiration are at the heart of the Wasatch Academy learning experience. Students who learn in an environment conducive to joyful learning and inspiring instruction develop into healthy and self-motivated people. Students, who are nurtured in a healthy learning environment feel freer to take risks, ponder life’s big questions and seek to connect with a larger world.

For students to thrive in an environment that inspires and is joyous, it requires adults who possess the capacity to respect the dignity of every student. In expressing their respect for the student’s dignity, teachers demonstrate appreciation for each learner’s unique combination of intelligences. No two students are alike. By respecting the different expressions of intelligence emanating from each student the possibilities for student growth are limitless.

Teaching for joy and inspiration puts the Wasatch Academy teacher in a unique position. Research relating to multiple intelligences becomes relevant in informing the pedagogy of the Wasatch Academy teacher. Use of a variety of teaching strategies to fit the teaching moment becomes commonplace. The school’s commitment and investment in an extraordinarily wide variety of activities allows students to find pathways for the development and expression of their own unique capabilities.

We channel resources to attract students from a multiplicity of backgrounds. In preparing students to be citizens of the world in the twenty-first century it is imperative we bring the world to this campus.
