How do we stay connected to Wasatch Academy’s global network of more than 5,300 alumni?
We bring Wasatch Academy to them.
The 2019-2020 school year relaunched the Wasatch Academy regional alumni events around the United States of America. This fall Wasatch Academy headed to Seattle and San Francisco. We kicked off 2020 with the first Portland, Oregon regional gathering in over thirty-five years.
Nearly twenty alumni from the greater Portland area gathered at Laurelwood Public House and Brewery for a night of connecting, networking, storytelling, and axe throwing! Alumni from the classes of 1963 through 2017 bridged the decades with shared experiences at Wasatch Academy.
Amanda Stone ’09, regional chair introduced us to the newest future Wasatch Academy alumna — her daughter Scarlett who was born only a few weeks ago. Other alumni Stephanie Hascall ’85 and Lee Wagner ’63 realized halfway through the night they had been next-door neighbors nearly twenty years ago. The world of Wasatch Academy is indeed small.
During the last hour of the event, everyone had a chance to head downstairs to the Celtic Axe Throwing lanes at Laurelwood. While everyone enjoyed themselves, Susan (Packhard) Hoff ’74 definitely found her knack for the new sport. Even Head of School, Joseph Loftin threw a few axes and hit a bullseye.
Overall, the Portland regional gathering was a success and we are looking forward to heading back to that city in the future. Our next gathering is scheduled for February 20, 2020, in Denver, Colorado, at Crazy Mountain Brewery in their Speakeasy Room.
