The team began their pre-season with a loss at DaVinci High School in Ogden, but, with hard work and persistence, they went on to win all but one of their regular season games. The team, led by senior captains Jack Rozells, Lucas Roth, and Drew Goldsberry, became a defensive powerhouse and frustrated the big-hitting teams of the USSA high school league.
The team entered the Utah State Championship Tournament as the No.2 seed from the Western Division. They beat American Prep Academy of Draper in three sets for the first-round victory and defeated the DaVinci Dragons in the semi-final game. DaVinci hosted the state tournament and was coming off a first-round upset of No.1 seed American Heritage from the Eastern Division. The Tigers overcame a great DaVinci team and their home court advantage in the 5th and final set to earn a place in the championship match versus Maeser Academy.
The championship match with Maeser was held on October 28. The Tigers battled with everything they had but were eventually overcome by the larger and more athletic Maeser Lions team. The boys brought home the second-place trophy for their efforts.
From start to finish the boys had a great experience and the team improved immensely through the season. The Tigers represented Wasatch Academy well with their tenacity, work ethic, and team unity.
