With the best snow on earth, you really can’t go wrong when choosing a resort to ski/board in Utah. We have 12 different resorts you can go with, but we picked our five favorites around the Salt Lake City area and laid out the details of each so you can make an informed decision this season.
One of the most well-known resorts in the country and definitely in Utah, Park City is perfect for all levels of experience. Whether you are with your family and trying to teach your five-year-old how to ski or enjoying the park all day, Park City will meet your needs. Recently, Park City combined with a neighboring resort and now offers 7,300 acres to its skiers and snowboarders.
This resort is further north of Salt Lake, but it is still a viable option for purchasing a season or day pass. Snow Basin is full of powder, alpine bowls, steep chutes, and groomed cruisers, and it is an excellent place to begin your skiing or snowboarding adventure. Plus, they have gondolas, a tram, and insanely good and well-priced restaurants.
Alta (Skiers Only)
Even though this one is a skier only resort, it is still one of the best in Utah. Up at the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon, Alta is home to the local skiers. With fewer crowds and steep, powdery terrain, Alta is definitely a local favorite.
This resort is popular all year long, but their skiing/snowboarding is definitely a favorite to locals and visitors. Snowbird is a little more expensive than other Cottonwood Canyon resorts but provides 169 runs and an aerial tram that takes you to the top of the mountain in 8 minutes. Along with Alta, most of the terrain is quite steep so other than a few bunny hills and varied terrain, we recommend more experienced skier and boarders to head to Snowbird.
This resort is the Alta to the snowboarding community in Salt Lake. While skiers are allowed and the ratio is relatively equal, it is very local and holds the nostalgia of old-time skiing and boarding. Brighton is known for a combo of excellent terrain and a popular park scene. This resort is a great place for learning, is a great bang for your buck, and offers excellent night skiing/boarding.
Whichever resort you choose, you are under an hour and half away whenever you are at Wasatch Academy. So pack up your winter gear and get ready to hit the slopes!
