How Total Immersion Teaches Students English More Effectively

April 5, 2016

boys

Learning a second language is not an easy task; there are rules, slang and sometimes just odd quirks about a language that can make it substantiality difficult to learn. Many people will learn a language, go to a country where that language is spoken and still struggle with basic, day-to-day communications.

Full language immersion is perhaps the most beneficial way to understand a foreign language — including all of its inconsistencies and abnormalities. Wasatch Academy is one of the few private boarding schools where students are immersed in the English language with the goal of improving both their written or oral English language skills.

Living With English and Non-English Speakers
At Wasatch Academy, students from outside the United States are immediately encompassed within the English language. Wasatch Academy is one of the rare private boarding schools where students are purposefully placed in a dorm room with someone who doesn’t speak the same native language as them. This immersion is dually beneficial for both people — both the English speaker and the non-English speaker — as it helps broaden cultural horizons while helping students become familiar with alternative languages.
Learning Language as a Positive Challenge

Being immersed in language helps motivate students to learn it more quickly than textbook methods; in some ways, learning the language becomes a survival skill. This unique opportunity for foreign language immersion at Wasatch Academy places our academy in a league of its own when it comes to learning foreign or unfamiliar languages. Communication that was once seen as difficult is now seen as a positive challenge that benefits all students involved.

Learning English at Wasatch Academy
English is one of the hardest languages to learn — particularly due to words that sound the same yet have different meanings. This is particularly true in the United States, where different regions simultaneously use and speak words differently. Wasatch Academy allows international students to effectively learn all of the nuances of the English language, specifically within our particular reason. Wasatch Academy is one of the select few private boarding schools to not only provide this unique opportunity for students, but to continually see positive benefits as a result.
