Senior Nguyen Le competed at the US Chess Federation tournament on December 1, 2018, at the University of Utah Warnock Engineering Building. As the 2017 Utah State Blitz chess champion, Nguyen approached the tournament calm and ready to take home another win.
Playing in Class X (for those in the USCF with a rating of 2000 or higher) Nguyen won 3 out of the 4 intense games positioning him for a three-way tie amongst two other chess elites: Vinh Tran and Bryan Leano.
Nguyen is currently ranked 4th out of 659 Utah state chess players. Armed with an early acceptance to the Massachusetts Institute of technology, Nguyen is more than just an advanced chess player. He is also an incredible mathematician always looking to solve the next challenge.
Nguyen suggests to anyone interested in competing in chess to “just start playing, relax and enjoy the game.”
