From our location to our student population, Wasatch Academy is a school that doesn’t follow convention. Unlike most college prep boarding schools, we pride ourselves on seeing our students as more than a grade or a test score.
When applying, students aren’t required to test into our program. We believe in the uniqueness that each student brings to our academy, and standardized testing can’t show us that.
Standardized Tests and the Pressure to Cheat
Students and teachers both feel the pressure that comes with performing well on annual tests. For a student, poor performance will limit his or her future. For a teacher, poor performance will affect his or her salary and career.
Typically college prep boarding schools don’t look into the whole student like we do. Instead of making students learn in a generic oneness, our teachers design strategies and activities that reach every type of learning style.
The Lack of Understanding
When preparing students for upcoming standardized tests, most teachers feel the need to give their students a formula or trick to remember the information they’ll need. In doing so, the student can get the grade they were hoping for, but they won’t grasp the concept as a whole.
At Wasatch Academy the individualized attention each student gets allows our teachers to understand him or her better. This attention pairs well with our rigorous curriculum because our teachers can catch a student who’s falling behind before it becomes a problem. Our teachers have found ways to support learning differences.
Standardized Tests Dehumanize
We are among the college prep boarding schools who believe in leveraging the intellectual strengths of each and every student. It is our belief that not everyone can function in the traditional school setting. By remembering this, we push our students to their full creative potential in their learning, so that they can one day land their dream job.
