Bryce Van Ross is the Mathematics Department Chair, bringing a dynamic background spanning astrophysics, robotics, and high school STEM instruction. Bryce earned both a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from California State University, Los Angeles. 

For his Master's thesis, Bryce utilized Ramsey theory to explore potential applications to the Many-Worlds Interpretation of quantum mechanics. His impressive track record includes research fellowships with MIT's Summer Geometry Institute, software development at NASA Ames Research Center, and machine learning research for exoplanet detection at Carnegie Observatories. He has also earned a certification from the MIT Science and Engineering Program for Teachers (SEPT).

In the high school classroom, Bryce loves guiding students through Algebra 2, AP Calculus AB, and AP Statistics, though his personal favorite branch of math is Category Theory.

Outside of the classroom, Bryce enjoys comic books, cinema, exploring local food scenes, hiking, traveling, theology, learning obscure languages via Duolingo (Latin, Klingon, and currently Esperanto) and playing tabletop board games — a subject he has even published on. You can also find him trying to make peace with his love-hate relationship with running. Bryce looks forward to cultivating a collaborative, innovative math community across campus.
