McMillan Scholars Opportunity

What is the McMillan Scholars program?

For more than 150 years, Wasatch Academy has empowered students from across the United States to pursue academic excellence, discover their passions, and thrive in a supportive boarding community. In celebration of this legacy, we are proud to introduce the McMillan Scholarship, a prestigious award designed to recognize outstanding rising 9th-grade students.

Each year, one domestic boarding student entering 9th grade will be awarded a full four-year scholarship covering 100% of tuition, room, and board at Wasatch Academy. In addition, runners-up will receive annual scholarships ranging from $10,000 to $30,000 toward tuition.

Applications are now open for students entering 9th grade for the 2026–27 academic year. We invite motivated, curious, and driven students to apply and join our vibrant community of scholars and leaders.

  • Once your online application and fee are submitted, your applicant checklist will be visible. Applicant checklist requirements include:

    • Teacher Recommendation Forms: Math, English, & Personal

    • Transcripts/Grade Reports

  • In addition to the online application, we ask that you submit a portfolio that highlights YOU! 

    Portfolio content:

    • Resume highlighting your community service, extracurricular activities, achievements and honors, and leadership positions.

    • Short essay response (200-500 words) responding to one of the following prompts:

    • “If you had the power to change one thing in the world, what would it be and why?”

    • “If you had the opportunity to eat dinner with one historical figure, who would you choose and why?”

    • An example of your creativity: this could include a video of a musical performance, an art piece, written work, computer animation, it could even be something you’ve 3D printed! 

    Portfolios should be submitted electronically to admissions@wasatchacademy.org.

  • A personal interview with an Admissions Officer is an essential component of Wasatch Academy's admissions application. During the interview, students will have the opportunity to share information about their current school, academic and extra-curricular interests, anything that helps us understand what they love to do, and their desire to attend Wasatch Academy. Interviews can be scheduled in-person during a campus visit or online.

McMillan Scholars Deadline 

The McMillan Scholars program follows Wasatch Academy’s standard enrollment timeline. All applications completed by February 2, 2026, will be considered.
